Descripció general
Cala en Bosc, a 10 km de Ciutadella i amb orientació sud, és la cala urbana més extensa de Ciutadella. Situada en el nucli turístic de Cala en Bosc, acull la major part d’oferta hotelera del municipi. Tot i la urbanització de la zona, la platja presenta una vegetació que l’envolta per la part posterior, i és un relicte del sistema dunar, d’arena blanca i fina, que s’estenia antigament cap a Son Xoriguer. El litoral de la cala és de tipus calcari i baix, amb una notable erosió marina que es mostra amb la formació de sostres (concavitats a la roca).
Antigament l’estany de cala en Bosc era una albufera que desembocava temporalment a la mar, obrint-se pas a través de l’arena de la platja. Durant els anys 70, però, es va obrir la llacuna per mitjà d’un canal artificial, amb l’objectiu de crear un port esportiu i una marina, fet que causà un canvi en la morfologia de la platja de cala en Bosc.
Aquesta platja està certificada per AENOR amb un sistema de gestió ambiental segons la norma UNE:EN ISO 14.001:2015.

Accés rodat. Des de la carretera de Ciutadella cap al cap d’Artrutx (Me-24) s’arriba a la urbanització de Cala en Bosc, on la platja hi té zona d’estacionament associat.

Dimensions
La platja de cala en Bosc té 90 metres de llargada per 50 metres d’ample, tot i que les dimensions són variables i depenen dels temporals marítims i de les pluges.

A l’estiu la plata disposa de servei d’abalisament, socorrisme, banys, dutxes, lloguer de gandules i para-sols. A l’entorn hi ha supermercats, farmàcia, comerços, activitats nàutiques, restaurants i allotjaments oberts de maig a octubre. Durant tot l’any hi ha transport públic.
Accessibilitat
Tot i que és de fàcil accés, no té una adaptació específica per a persones amb mobilitat reduïda.

Son Xoriguer, situada a 10 km de Ciutadella, amb orientació sud-est, es troba al costat est de la punta de sa Guarda. També coneguda com es Platjals, presenta un sistema dunar a la part posterior i en direcció nord-est, amb vegetació dunar. Es tracta d’una platja ampla i oberta, d’arena blanca i fina, amb un litoral de poca alçada que, juntament amb els corrents marins, fa que la distribució d’arena sigui molt variable, fet que provoca que alguns anys apareguin raconades amb arena mentre que en altres zones es trobin les roques del subsol a la vista. A l’entorn de la platja s’hi poden trobar restes d’antigues trinxeres construïdes durant la Guerra Civil Espanyola amb la finalitat de combatre possibles desembarcaments de tropes enemigues.
Es troba en una zona urbanitzada amb multitud de serveis de restauració i d’allotjament durant la temporada turística.

Aquesta zona aglomera la major part de l’oferta hotelera del municipi, disposa de serveis bàsics propers encara que conserva l’entorn tranquil. Al voltant de la platja hi ha un passeig agradable per accedir a diferents parts de la platja. Cada temporada la natura d’aquesta platja ens sorprèn, depenent dels temporals de l’hivern, ens trobem més arena i una platja més ampla o més pedres i petites raconades.

General description
Cala en Bosc is 10 km from Ciutadella and faces south. Located in the tourist urbanisation of the same name, it is the largest urban bay offering hotel accommodation in the district. Despite the buildings, the beach is surrounded by vegetation at the back and has a natural dunar system, with fine white sand which used to extend as far as Son Xoriguer. The cove’s coastline is calcareous and low-lying, showing significant marine erosion with the formation of overhangs (concavities in the rock).
In the past, the lagoon at Cala en Bosc was a marsh that temporarily flowed into the sea, making its way through the sand on the beach. During the 1970s, however, the lagoon was opened up by means of an artificial channel to create a marina, which resulted in the Cala en Bosc beach changing shape.
This beach holds the AENOR certificate, with an environmental management system in accordance with regulation UNE:EN ISO 14.001:2015.

General description
Son Xoriguer is situated 10 km from Ciutadella and faces south east. It is on the eastern side of the Sa Guarda point. Also called Es Platjals, it has a dunar system at the back of the beach looking north east, with limited dune vegetation due to the building development around it. The beach itself is open and wide with fine white sand, with the coastline being low-lying, together with the marine currents, it makes the distribution of sand quite varied. This results in a combination of scattered sand and visible deep rock formations. Around the beach lie the remains of old trenches built during the Spanish Civil War to combat possible landings of enemy troops.
This urbanised area has many restaurant and accommodation services.

There is a pleasant pathway that leads to different sections of the beach, which tends to change every season with the winter weather, making the beach seem larger with more sand, or scattered with rocky nooks and crannies.
